The 5 Minute Warm-Up Pros Use Before Every Match
Here’s the routine I use before a match:
1) Start at the Kitchen
Begin with straight-ahead dinking.
Focus on consistency, feel, and moving the ball around. Don’t try to win the warm-up.
2) Work Through the Mid-Court
Have one player step back into the transition zone and work on resets.
The player at the kitchen should apply 4th ball pressure, making the resets as game-like as possible.
3) Move Back to the Baseline
That same player moves all the way back and warms up their drops and drives.
Mix between the two so you’re comfortable with both.
4) Switch Roles 🔄
Now flip it!
The other player works from transition → baseline, while their partner stays at the kitchen.
5) Fast Hands
Meet back at the kitchen and spend a little time on volleys.
Get those reactions firing before the first point!
6) Serves & Returns
Finish with a few serves and returns to get comfortable with the two shots that start every rally.
The entire routine should take about 5 minutes.
