This one skill separates good players from great ones.
Knowing when to hit an aggressive dink vs. a dead dink.
Aggressive Dink
Use this when you want to take control of the rally.
Hit the ball with topspin and aim deep, near your opponent's kitchen line. This forces them into an uncomfortable decision:
Do I take it out of the air?
Do I let it bounce?
Do I back up?
That hesitation is exactly what you're trying to create. The result is often a weak reply or popup you can attack.
Dead Dink
Use this when you need to neutralize your opponent's pressure.
Hit the ball softly and keep it shallow, ideally just clearing the net. A short, dead dink gives your opponent very little to work with and makes it much harder for them to attack.
The Simple Rule
✅If your opponent hits a dead dink, look to take control with an aggressive dink.
✅ If your opponent is applying pressure with aggressive dinks, respond with dead dinks until you receive a ball you can confidently create on.
Mastering the IQ between these two dinks will dramatically make you more of a threat at the kitchen line!
