3 Tips That Will Instantly Improve Your Decision-Making:
1. Be PROACTIVE, not REACTIVE.
Don’t wait for your opponent to speed the ball up.
As soon as the ball is on their side of the net, paddle-track it and anticipate the attack before it happens.
The best defenders are prepared before the speedup ever comes.
2. Never speed up a ball out of panic.
Only attack when you’re completely committed.
If you’re even 1% unsure whether you should speed it up, don’t.
Patience wins far more points than forced attacks.
3. Read your partner’s third shot.
As your partner is about to hit their third-shot drop, take two steps forward and watch the quality of their shot.
Great drop? Keep moving in.
High drop? Stay back and prepare to defend.
The quality of your partner’s drop should determine your transition, not guessing.

P.S. I’m currently in Nicaragua on a surf trip with Hayden Patriquin. We’ve been surfing every day between training sessions, and this country has been incredible. If you’ve never been, I’d highly recommend adding it to your bucket list.
